Faces of Goodwill

Chuck's Story

Chuck's Story

Charles, better known as Chuck, has held a variety of jobs at Goodwill over the last 15 years, ranging from rag cutter and processor to bale operator and textile hanger. He particularly likes hanging textiles because he can do it very well and with great focus. In fact, he is one of our fastest textile hangers.

Chuck is proud that he was able to teach our new CEO all aspects of Goodwill’s rag operation, a recycling initiative that turns old T-shirts into industrial cleaning rags. He’s learned many things as a Goodwill employee, particularly about safety protocols and all of the steps necessary to maintain a culture of safety -- from parking pallet jacks to wearing gloves and goggles and how to lift and carry trash. He says he’s also gained valuable knowledge in our CPR and first aid training courses, as well as learning about human rights, and how to be a good listener.

He especially likes participating in staff barbeques (for which he always bakes brownies), opening the door for female co-workers, and making coffee in the lunchroom when the pot is low. He also enjoys spending lunch breaks watching wrestling matches on his phone with a colleague and is happy to be a part of the Goodwill “family.”
